• Piazza del Popolo

A large square once the northern entrance to Rome. In the center stands an Egyptian obelisk 36 meters high of Ramesses II brought from Heliopolis by Augustus in 10 BC. Also at the corner of the square are the churches of Santa Maria in Montesanto and Santa Maria dei Miracoli where Via del Corso the high end fashion street leads to Piazza di Spagna. In the Piazza few beautiful fountains, Lion heads placed in the basis of the Obelisk, two fountains of the 19th century by Ceccarini flanked by two sculptures on each side of the square, and the fountain of Neptune on the east side of the square.
