• Pergamon

A rich and powerful ancient Greek city, the capital city of the Kingdom of Pergamon in the 2nd century BC, northwest of the modern city of Bergama, 113 km north of Izmir centre.

The impressive remains of its ancient glory are the Acropolis and the Asklepion.

The Acropolis is dramatically located on a hill to the northeast of the town centre, to be reached by the Bergama Acropolis Cable Car going uphill.
Among the remains scattered in the site, explore especially the Marble columns of the Temple of Trajan, the well-preserved Hellenistic Theatre, the steepest of all ancient theatres, the Altar of Zeus with only its foundations preserved, and the amazing mosaic floors in the modern building Z.
Also on site, the 2nd century BC Asklepion was an important healing centre of the Roman world.
