The Sanssouci small residence Palace, and the vast New Palace, Neues Palais, built by Frederick the Great King of Prussia in the Sanssouci Park in Postdam, 40 km southwest of Berlin Center. Both palaces were aimed to represent the power and wealth of Prussia.

Sanssouci Palace

An 18th century small Rococo Palace, built to serve King Frederick’s need for a private residence and retreat. The palace is a large single story 10 rooms ‘villa’, built on a terraced hill. The state rooms and the halls are richly decorated with walls paneling and tapestries, gilded stucco works, Corinthian columns, and ceiling paintings.

The Palace has a terraced vineyard garden with panoramic views downhill onto Baroque ornamental garden. Past the Baroque Garden, the Sanssouci Park with its main avenue leads to the Grand New Palace on its western end.

The New Palace
The Neues Palais is an 18th century grand Baroque palace on the western side of the Sanssouci park in Potsdam, Germany, 40 km southwest of Berlin. Build by Frederick the Great king of Prussia, the main purpose of the palace was hosting the king’s guests and for extravagant entertainment in its richly decorated banquet halls. The impressive palace has three wings, with a roof decorated with a dome and numerous sandstone sculptures. The palace’s 200 rooms, royal apartments, and banquet halls are all fascinating with their extravagant decoration in the lively Rococo style, frescoed ceilings, paintings, sculptures, beautiful period furnishing, and many artifacts. Explore the eccentric Grotto Hall with its walls covered with shells, minerals, marble, and gemstones, the ornamented Marble floor and the ceiling fresco. Admire the Marble Hall Marmorgalerie, with its marble cladding and gold framed ceiling paintings, the enormous chandeliers, 18th century furniture and many artifacts. Surrounding the palace is the Sanssouci Park, with a network of pathways, sculptures, fountains trees and bushes, the Temple of Friendship and the Antique Temple.
