• Old Phuket Town

Old Phuket Town is the island’s administrative and historic center 15 km from the main beach resort areas. The town preserves the cultural and architectural heritage dated to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when Chinese immigrants, European traders, and entrepreneurs came here and built elegant shophouses of Portuguese colonial architectural elements combined with Chinese decorative traditions.
Stroll the town’s streets and admire the restored and converted boutique hotels, cafés, restaurants, art galleries, designer shops, and museums.
Stroll the Thalang Road, the Old Town’s main road, to admire the ornate stucco work, the Chinese altars and shrines, and the Portuguese influenced decorative elements, including ceramic tiles and painted shutters.
While walking the side streets off Thalang Road notice the street art and murals decorating the walls, with works by international and Thai artists, and window shop the boutiques selling contemporary Thai design.
The Old Town is where you will enjoy authentic Thai Chinese cuisine and atmospheric traditional coffee shops.
On Sunday walk the vibrant Street Market in Thalang Road and the surrounding streets, one of Phuket’s premier cultural experiences, with hundreds of vendors selling handicrafts, textiles, artwork, jewelry, and more. Enjoy the market’s food stalls offering authentic southern Thai specialties, watch the local crowd, and enjoy the live music and performances.
Visit the Thai Hua Museum presenting Phuket’s Chinese immigrant heritage, housed within a beautiful building, and the Chinpracha House which preserves the lifestyle of Phuket’s elite Chinese merchants in the early 20th century.
Museums are usually closed in Monday, the same as all over Thailand.
