• Melk Abbey

A 13th century Benedictine abbey above the town of Melk, 88 km west of Vienna, positioned on a hilltop overlooking the Wachau valley and the Danube River. The abbey’s Baroque church rebuilt in the 18th century has beautifully and richly decorated nave, altar and a Marble Hall, with frescoes, stucco work and statues. The abbey is home to the remains of Saint Coloman of Stockerau and members of the House of Babenberg, Austria’s first ruling dynasty.
