• Marksburg Castle

A 13th century archetype of a Medieval castle and Romanticism architecture, used mainly for protection rather than a royal residence, located on a hilltop above Braubach, 14 km south of Koblenz. The castle was never destroyed nor significantly changed over the centuries. Visit the residential rooms with typical medieval furnishing, the Knights’ Hall, the wine cellar, the Castle kitchen, and the castle chapel located in a 14th century tower. In the 18th century building admire the castle collections of coins, glass artifacts, armor, and weapons mainly from the 15th – 17th centuries period.
The Armor display includes 14 life-size figures of the late 19th century representing the development of the armored warrior from antiquity to early modern period. Visit also the Horse stable, today home to a collection of torture and punishment instruments, the 15th century Castle Forge including period grindstone, tools, and leather aprons. Explore the castle’ small botanical garden of medieval herbs and ornamental plants. Daily tours are available for visitors.
