• Linderhof Palace (Schloss Linderhof)

A magnificent Rococo style 19th century palace near the village of Ettal in southwest Bavaria, 42 km east of Fussen. It is the smallest of King Ludwig II’s three palaces, inspired by the French Versailles palace. Unlike the other two palaces, Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, the Linderhof Palace has more of a private, homey atmosphere, yet extravagant, with only few rooms not serving a real function.
Enjoy the period furnishing, artworks and artifacts, in the beautifully and richly decorated rooms used solely by King Ludwig. Admire the Hall of Mirrors, the Tapestry Chambers, the Audience Chamber, and the Dining Room where the king used to eat alone having discussions with imaginary people. The Linderhof Palace, similarly to the Neuschwanstein Palace, has in many rooms, themes from Wagner’s greatest operas. The gardens surrounding the palace are huge, considered one of the most beautiful formal gardens in the world, combining Renaissance and Baroque Garden designs, and landscapes resembling English landscape gardens.
The most extravagant element in the gardens is probably the Venus Grotto, lake and waterfall. The gardens are decorated with numerous sculptures, fountains, and additional artifacts, on top of various structures such as the Hunding’s Hut, the Gurnemanz Hermitage, the Moorish Kiosk, and the Moroccan House.
