Grotte chauvet 2 – Ardeche is a replica of the Chauvet Cave 90 km Northwest of Avignon. The Chauvet Cave near the village of Vallon-Pont-d’Arc located on a limestone cliff in the Gorges de l’Ardèche. The cave was discovered in 1994 and is home to some of the best preserved figurative Paleolithic cave paintings in the world dating to around 30,000 years ago.
In addition to hundreds of animal paintings, there are in the cave findings of fossilized remains, human footprints, and markings from a variety of animals, some of which are now extinct. Chauvet 2, the replica of the now sealed Chauvet cave presents breathtaking Paleolithic Cave Art including numerous paintings on panels of horses, lions, rhinos and more.
There are highly popular three cave systems near the Chauvet 2 Cave with magnificent Stalactites, Stalagmites, and other beautiful rock formations, the Aven d’Orgnac cave 22 km to the south, the Grotte de la Cocalière 22 km southwest, and the Grotte Saint Marcel 20 km southeast of the Chauvet 2 Cave.
