The capital city of Pieria region part of the Olympus Riviera between Mt. Olympus and the Thermaikos Gulf, 68 km southwest of Thessaloniki. The city is accessible via the Thessaloniki–Athens Train lines and Highway. Katerini is a popular tourist destination given its close proximity of 7 km to the coast and the Korinos, Paralia and Olympiaki Akti beaches.
The 5th century BC city of Dion is 16 km south of the city, the Olympus Mountain National Park is 39 km southwest of the city, and the Elatochori Ski Center in Mount Pieria is 36 km west of the city. In the city and its surroundings hundreds of hotels, Restaurants, pubs and cafes, some are concentrated within the city center around Olimpiou street. When in the city center, visit the Katerini Municipal Park, its gardens, water fountains, ponds and small zoo.
