• Hohenzollern Castle

The castle was the ancestral seat of the imperial House of Hohenzollern, built on Mount Hohenzollern summit above Hechingen, by King Frederick William IV of Prussia in the 19th century, 140 km northeast of Freiburg.
Although not within the Black Forest Region it’s a highly recommended attraction to visit if time allows. Among the historical artifacts of Prussian history on display in the castle are the Crown of Wilhelm II, and personal items of King Frederick the Great. The beautiful and impressive castle is one of the most popular castles in Germany, and its complex includes military architecture, the palatial buildings with total of 140 rooms, chapels, and surrounding gardens.
The Palace rooms are overwhelmingly decorated with gilded ceilings, woodwork flooring and portraits of Prussian royals. Visit the impressive Count’s Hall supported by eight red marble columns and decorated with grayish paintings, the Emperor Tower, the library decorated with impressive murals, the King and Queen’s room, and many other stunningly decorated rooms.
