• Doi Suthep-Pui National Park

Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, west of Chiang Mai, is home to forested mountains, waterfalls, hill tribe villages, and Chiang Mai’s most sacred temple, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. The park offers easily-accessible nature experiences of the city center.
The park is easily accessed within 30 minutes by songthaew, motorbike, or bicycle from central Chiang Mai.

  • Phu Phing Royal Palace
    The royal family’s winter residence near Doi Suthep summit home to beautiful gardens open to the public on weekends and holidays when the royal family is not in residence. The palace is typically closed in January-March.
  • Hmong Doi Pui village
    Visiting the Hmong hill tribe village enjoy mountain views, handicraft stalls, and access to hiking trails. The Hmong people cultivate temperate crops and produce traditional textiles.
  • The Monk’s Trail
    Often called Buddha’s Footprint Trail is the ancient pilgrimage trail ascending Doi Suthep mountain from the base near Chiang Mai University to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. The trail is 3 km, 2-3 hours, of steep ascent through beautiful, shaded forest rich with bird life. Wat Pha Lat, the hidden forest temple, is halfway up and makes an excellent rest stop. For an easier experience you can hike down from the mountain to the city.
  • Huay Kaew Waterfall
    A small waterfall near the park entrance at the base of Doi Suthep, popular with local families for picnicking.
  • Mountain biking and hiking trails
    Multiple trails of varying difficulty allow exploration ranging from easy walks to challenging day hikes.
