• Doi Mae Salong

Doi Mae Salong is a mountain village, 1,800 high, near the Myanmar border, 70 km northwest of Chiang Rai. In the village a Chinese Yunnanese community maintaining strong Chinese cultural identity through its dialect, architecture,  food, and Chinese New Year celebration. Doi Mae Salong is famous for its terraced hillsides of Chinese tea plantations producing excellent quality leaves. Admire the beautiful mountain setting, the mist wrapped peaks, and the panoramic views across forested mountains toward Myanmar.
Visiting the village, take Tea plantation tours, walk through Chinese shophouses and temples, and enjoy mountain viewpoints, Chinese Yunnanese food, and homestays in the village guesthouses. The nearby Akha, and Lisu hill tribe villages are also great visit destinations.
Reach the village through a winding mountain road part of a day trip from Chiang Rai or overnight stay in local guesthouse. Combine the village visit with visits to Phu Chi Fa mountaintop or the Golden Triangle Region.
