• Château de Chenonceau

The palace of the Dames de Chenonceau is a 16th century Renaissance palace near the village of Chenonceaux and across the Cher River, 18 km east of Amboise. It’s one of the best known and popular palaces of the Loire Valley. The palace was built and renovated by famous French women throughout history, including Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de’ Medici. The three parts palace includes a two stories main building with twenty richly decorated rooms open to visitors, a long gallery built on five arches over the Cher River, and the tower des Marques, a remnant of an older castle. Surrounding the palace are beautiful gardens lighted in the summer, geometrically designed with trees and shrubs around flower beds. In the palace visit Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici rooms, the state apartments of the kings François 1 and Louis XIV, and the Chapel.
Admire the exhibition room home to a collection of drawings, engravings and prints, the interesting period kitchens, and the two stories grand gallery built on top of the arched bridge over the Cher River. In the palace rooms you will admire the beautiful paintings including those by masters like Poussin and Rubens, sculptures, luxurious period furniture and artworks, rich colored rare Gobelin tapestries, and magnificent ceiling decorated with canvas painting. In the large stable part of the 16th century farm explore the rare collection of noble and rural horse carriages.
