Charoen Krung Road runs for 8 km along the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River from the Old City through Chinatown and Bang Rak to the Sathorn area. Along the road historic buildings from the colonial era, Chinese shophouses, Portuguese and Italian churches, and contemporary galleries and cafés. The southern stretch of Charoen Krung is Bangkok’s most interesting creative district, with independent galleries, design studios, concept stores, and restaurants within beautifully restored heritage buildings. In the evening, stroll along Charoen Krung, and have dinner at one of the riverfront restaurants near the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
