• Chalkio

Picturesque village which served as the island’s capital in the past, 16 km southeast of Naxos town, in the mountainous Tragea Valley. Stroll the charming, paved alleys, observe the neoclassical buildings, and enjoy the numerous traditional cafes, restaurants, and small shops.
Visit Panagia Drossiani, one of Greece’s oldest churches located above the village, and the 11th century church of Agios Georgios Diasoritis, a small Byzantine picturesque church located amongst the fields and farms.
Vallindras Kitron Distillery also located in Chalkio, is where the Kitron liqueur was once produced commercially. The Kitron is a Naxos local liqueur distilled from the leaves of the citron tree. The Distillery is operating since 1896 using the same old processes with copper stills and big fermenting jars and wicker baskets. Tour the Distillery and taste the great liqueur.
