• Cavusin

A village in the district of Avanos, Cappadocia, Turkey, 5 km north of Goreme in the Goreme National Park.  North of the village an ancient rock “castle” partially ruined with exposed walls and corridors. Near the village on the slopes of the surrounding hills, the Church of St. John the Baptist with magnificent 6th and 8th centuries frescoes, impressive rock formations, cave houses, and cave hotels and restaurants. Carved into the slope of the hill right upon leaving the village, is the 10th century Cavusin church, home to many detailed, colored frescoes of scenes from the New Testament.
