The Cathedral in Rouen’s historic center present the evolution of Gothic architecture since its foundation in the 12th century on the foundations of a 4th century Basilica, through to the 16th century, from early Gothic to late Flamboyant and Renaissance architecture. Admire the overwhelming exterior with its beautiful Gothic facade, its famous two high towers, and the 19th century, 151 meters high metal spire. Explore the numerous exterior decoration elements, sculptures, pinnacles, gables, arches, and more. Inside the Cathedral enjoy the high vaulted interiors with the stunning stained-glass windows, 18 small chapels packed with artworks, sculptures and paintings, a high Altar with 18th century Rococo statue of Christ, carved choir stalls, and an interesting treasury. Examine the Tombs of the Dukes of Normandy, the Viking Rollo, and that of Richard the Lionheart King of England. Note that the Cathedral was an inspiration for a series of impressionist paintings by Claude Monet.
