• Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is an 18th century Catholic shrine, an iconic monument, and a pilgrimage site in Tenoes, 6 km northeast of Braga. The site is known for the monumental Baroque stairway that leads to a Baroque church while climbing 116 meters to the top. Along the stairway there are few chapels each decorated with allegoric sculptures depicting the Passion of Christ. The winding segment of the staircase is dedicated to the Five Senses, each featured by a fountain. To reach the Bom Jesus Sanctuary hilltop you can ride a 19th century water powered tram. Surrounding the site is a beautiful large park and a lake offering beautiful landscapes of Braga and the surroundings.
