At the center of Florence Market district, one of the largest and oldest churches of Florence which at early days was the city’s Cathedral. Designed by Fillippo Brunelleschi in the 15th century, it was the burial place of all the principal members of the Medici family. The church is part of a complex including the Sagresta Vacchia by Brunelleschi, with interior decoration and sculptures by Donatello, the Laurentian Library, the New Sacristy based on Michelangelo’s designs, and the magnificent Medici Chapels by Matteo Nigetti. In the basilica you will find a fresco by Bronzino, two bronze pulpits and bronze doors by Donatello, an altarpiece by Fra Filippo Lippi, and a tomb of Giova, and Piero de Medici by Verrocchio.
