Archaeological sites of ancient marketplaces, the cultural, and commercial center of the city, including the 2nd century BC Ancient Agora. The Agora is mostly in ruins, located between Monastiraki and the base of the Acropolis, and the Roman Agora in Plaka district, dated to the year 11 B.C.
The Ancient Agora includes the Temple of Hephaestus one of the best preserved Doric temples in Greece, the Stoa of Attalos, the Byzantine Church of the Holy Apostles, and some remains of the ancient streets and squares.
The Roman Agora, which is less impressive than the ancient Agora, includes the 8 facets Marble Tower of the Winds, the Gate of Athena Archegetis, with its 4 well preserved columns, the Fethiye Mosque, a large central area, and more.
