• Paul Cezanne and Aix-en-Provence

The 19th century French Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cezanne lived and worked in Aix painting the city and its surroundings in numerous artworks. Paintings by the artist are presented in the Musee Granet and in Hotel de Caumont where you can enjoy a multimedia exhibition of Cezanne’s life and work. Visit the Atelier Cezanne where he worked in his last years, a studio untouched since he died providing an intimate sense of the painter and his works. Visit also the Bibemus Quarries out of town which provide the same viewpoint Cezanne had of Sainte-Victoire Mountain, which appeared so many times in his paintings. A pedestrian route known as the Cezanne Trail begins with the statue of Paul Cezanne at the Mirabeau Boulevard and continues through the various sites in the city which were part of his life.
