• Montepulciano

A hilltop town where the valleys of di Chiana and d’Orcia meet, 60 km south of Siena and 40 km east of Montalcino. It’s a beautiful small Medieval town surrounded by walls and fortifications, with 14th to 16th centuries Renaissance squares and picturesque palaces. Il Corso, the town’s main street leads all the way up from the town’s gates Porta al Prato or Porta delle Farine through to the center at the top of the hill. While strolling the town streets you will enjoy the magnificent Tuscan landscapes with the green rolling hills, the Wheat fields, the flowers, the Olive groves and Cypress trees, and the vineyards. In the vineyards surrounding the town the famous Montepulciano “Nobile” red wine is produced. Enjoy the great wine while seating in one of the small wine bars, on a terrace, overlooking the beautiful landscapes. Montepulciano is also known for its therapeutic thermal waters to be enjoyed as part of a wellness treatment, mud therapy, or a hydromassage, in one of the local SPA’s.
Enjoy the remarkable Renaissance architecture in the Medici Piazza Grande at the town center, visit the beautiful Bell Tower, Palazzo Comunale, and the 16th century town’s Cathedral. Also enjoy Palazzo Cappelli, the Gothic Palazzo Neri Orselli home to the civic museum, and the Church of Sant’Agnese with its beautiful Renaissance facade and a Crucifix attributed to Donatello. On a hill, below the Montepulciano’s Medieval walls, visit the 16th century beautiful San Biagio Church with its geometric structure and Greek architecture influence. Visit and tour the Avignonesi Winery, one of Italy’s oldest wineries dated to the 16th century, where you can enjoy a cooking class and hot-air balloon ride.
