  • A Medieval, romantic walled town, 53 km south of Florence and 43 km north of Siena, known for the numerous towers spread all over town overlooking the town and its rolling hills surroundings. There were 70 towers in San Gimignano during the 14th century, of which only 14 have survived. Walk around in the narrow streets, visit Piazza Duomo and Piazza Cisterna, admire the architectural features, and window shop the little shops of prints, textiles, and artisan pottery. Be sure to eat a superb ice-cream and to drink the famous local Vernaccia di San Gimignano white wine commercially successful since the 13th century.
