A 2nd century Roman archeological site outside of Tivoli, Emperor Hadrian retreat from his palace in Rome. The villa complex combines Greek and Egyptian architectural styles, and it includes palaces, baths, gardens ponds and fountains. Remarkable elements of the villa are an enormous pool surrounded by columns and decorated with figures of the caryatids, and the Maritime Theatre, a circular pool surrounded by columns with an island in the middle. Reach Hadrian’s Villa by car, a guided tour, or a bus from Ponte Mammolo station in Rome. If you are visiting Villa d’Este, there is a bus that connects both villas.
