Tham Luang Cave gained worldwide attention in 2018 when 12 members of a youth soccer team and their coach became trapped deep inside the cave system during monsoon flooding. The event sparked an international rescue operation that captivated global media. The cave system is a substantial limestone cavern extending several kilometers into the mountain, 60 km north of Chiang Rai near Mae Sai, on the Myanmar border.
