The best way to experience Khao Yai’s wildlife is through guided night tours along the park’s internal roads network using spotlights to locate nocturnal wildlife. You will have an opportunity to encounter barking deer, civets, porcupines, owls, and occasionally elephants. Night tours are organized through the park headquarters and nearby hotels and lodges. During the day, the main park road passes through open grassland areas where elephant herds are regularly sighted, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon near the grassland clearings. Guided trekking through the forest with national park rangers offers the best opportunities for birdwatching and small mammal observation. The forest at Khao Yai is a primary rainforest in many sections, with trees of enormous size and extraordinary botanical richness.
