  • Porto Santo is the second inhabited island (after Madeira Island) in the Portuguese Madeira Archipelago, located in the northern Atlantic Ocean west of southern Europe and North Africa. The small 6X11 km island and its sole city, Vila Baleira, are 43 km northeast of Madeira Island and unlike Madeira it has a long beautiful sandy beach stretch, beach resorts, and all the facilities required for a great summer beach-based vacation.
The island’s western and northern regions are mountainous and hilly with ~500 meters high mountain peaks, rocky cliffs falling to the ocean, and magnificent landscapes of mountains, rugged coastline, and surrounding islets. The eastern coastal region is blessed with beautiful 9 km long sandy beach, the city of Vila Baleira, and the municipality of Porto Santo.

Porto Santo is a small island, enabling traveling the island with rented car or bicycles.
To reach the island there are regular 1.5 hours flights from Lisbon and 0.5 hours flights from the island of Madeira.
Ferry service from the island of Madeira, a 2.5 hour sail carrying passengers and vehicles is also available.
Porto Santo has mild winters and warm to hot summers, with rain usually only in the winter.
