A remote, small and laidback fishing town at the most southwestern point of the Algarve region, Portugal and Europe, 34 km southwest of Lagos. The town is a popular vacation destination and is known for being a hub of surfing with the excellent surfing conditions in its beautiful sandy beaches. Although there are some modern hotels, restaurants, beach bars, and other tourist’s facilities and services, the town is much less developed and has less to offer when compared to the other resort towns of the Algarve.
While in Segre visit the Fortaleza de Sagres and Cabo de Sao Vicente and its lighthouse south of town, to enjoy the dramatic scenery of the cliffs, the ocean and the immense waves braking on the rocks. Enjoy surfing, swimming, and sunbathing in one of the town four beaches.

The beaches of Sagres.

  1. The most popular beach in town is the semi sheltered Praia da Mareta, offering medium level surfing conditions.
  2. The calm waters and sheltered Praia do Martinhal.
  3. Praia do Tonel great for expert surfers.
  4. Praia do Beliche, the sheltered and great for surfing beach 2 km north of town.

Nature lovers will enjoy in addition to the dramatic land and sea scenery, numerous hiking and cycling trails, and deep sea fishing trips opportunities.
The town beaches offer good surfing conditions all year round, where the spring is the best season for exploring the nature around town.
Visit Sagres for a week vacation or as a day trip from Lagos or the other Algarve resort towns. Rental car is highly recommended for those who wants to explore the region.
