A fishing village and a small resort town in Central Algarve Region, great for a relaxed, beach based summer vacation for families and older vacationers. The village is 30 km east of Lagos and 6 km west of Portimao and Praia da Rocha, all much larger and bustling resort towns. Alvor is located on the banks of the Ria de Alvor Estuary, and Praia do Alvor, a 3.5 km sandy beach stretch, south of town. The beach offers lifeguards, sunshades and parasols, beach bars, and restaurants. Along the beach and all the way to Joao de Arens headland there are numerous hotel complexes within walking distance from the town center.
Enjoy the traditional Portuguese ambience, the whitewashed houses on the narrow cobbled streets, the fishing boats along the banks of the river, and numerous restaurants, cafes, bars and small utility shops.

A regular bus service connects the town to the nearby larger towns and resorts of Praia da Rocha and Portimao. The Faro international airport is 70 km east of Alvor.
