• Mafra National Palace

Palacio Nacional de Mafra, or the Mafra Convent, is a huge complex of Baroque and Neoclassical palace and monastery located in Mafra, 40 km northwest of Lisbon. The large building complex which was built in the 18th century by King John V of Portugal include a Palace with its Basilica and library, a Convent, the Cerco Garden, and the Tapada Hunting Park.
The royal palace has more than 1,000 rooms including the king’s and queen’s apartments located in the palace northern and southern towers, and various ceremonial halls including the Hall of Discoveries and the Hall of Destinies.
While visiting the palace, its Basilica and the beautiful and impressive library, admire the magnificent ceiling paintings, frescoes covered walls, 19th century furniture, religious paintings and gold artworks. More in the palace Italian Baroque Carrara marble sculptures collection, textiles ornaments, 18th and 19th centuries French and Oriental decorative porcelain, and much more. Part of the palace collections are the largest 18th-century carillons collection in the world, clock and automatic melody systems, and six impressive Organs in the Palace Basilica.
