• The Moorish Castle

Castelo dos Mouros is an 8th century hilltop medieval castle, built by the Moors above Sintra and within the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, to be a strategic defence point.
The castle was conquered by Christian forces after the fall of Lisbon in the 12th century. A chapel which was than built within the castle was the center of its small community until it was abandoned at the end of the 15th century.
Today, the castle site includes the restored two lines of fortification walls and towers, a small chapel with rectangular nave and remains of frescoes and other decorations, and the ruins of some of the castle structures.
Visiting the castle ruins you will enjoy great landscapes of Sintra and the Atlantic ocean.
