• Porto beaches

Porto is located along Portugal’s northwestern coast offering some beautiful beaches with rather cold waters and windy conditions. Most of the beaches are distributed within three major areas and has all the required facilities including restaurants and bars either in the beaches themselves or close by.

The Porto beaches recommended by TheTjoy.com are:

  • The Matosinhos sandy beach, the most popular beach in Porto 7 km northwest of Porto’s center.
  • The Foz do Douro beaches north of the area where the river flows into the Ocean.
  • The Vila Nova de Gaia beaches south of the Foz do Douro.
  • The Porto Foz do Douro beaches, 4 km east of Porto’s center and 2 km south of the Matosinhos beach, are considered more pebbled and rockier and not ideal for swimming, and are along the Avenida do Brasil Its a 1.5 km stretch including the Praia do Homem do Leme, Praia do Molhe and the Pergola da Nevogilde, Praia de Gondarem, Praia da Luz, and Ingleses Beach.
The #500 public bus serves the area from Porto’s center.
Walk 700 meters south of Ingleses beach to admire and photograph the sight of the 19th century Felgueiras Lighthouse looking over the Douro River where it flows into the ocean.

Vila Nova de Gaia is a town southwest of Porto across the Dom Luís I Bridge.
