• The Ribeira Quarter

The Ribeira is the picturesque Medieval center of Porto, with its coloured 15th century buildings, the narrow alleys with the small local shops, the riverfront promenade packed with restaurants and cafes, traditional boats floating on the river, and some of the major city’s attractions nearby.

Start your visit at Praca da Ribeira Square, the center of the neighbourhood, where you will admire the great views of the famous Luis I bridge and the Douro River. Visit the Palacio da Bolsa and its magnificent Arab Hall, the Church of Sao Francisco with its overwhelming gold-plated interior, and the 14th century Casa do Infante, a former customs house presenting Porto’s history.

At night, enjoy the lively atmosphere seating at the Cais da Ribeira, the Douro riverfront promenade near the Dom Luis I Bridge. Seat in one of the many bars, cafes and restaurants, while admiring the Cais de Gaia riverfront on the other side of the river.
On Saint John’s Day in June and on New Year’s Eve enjoy the celebrations and fireworks shows.
