A small Greek island in the northwest Aegean Sea part of the Sporades islands and southeast of Volos in mainland Greece. Skiathos is a highly popular summer vacation destination for both Greeks and international tourists that visit the island for its beautiful sandy beaches and vibrant nightlife, highly appealing to younger visitors. The small island is 12 km long and 6 km wide with a 44 km coastline including inlets, capes, and peninsulas, and more than 60 beautiful mostly sandy beaches.

The island terrain is mountainous and rugged on the north, and gently sloping to the coast in the southern parts, with dense Pine trees forests in the southwestern and northern areas.
The island’s capital and major town is Skiathos Town in the eastern part of the island, with most of the villages and beach resorts in the southern parts. Stroll the beautiful Skiathos town, its narrow alleys, Venetian style buildings and whitewashed houses, and enjoy the numerous bars, cafes, restaurants, small shops and boutiques.

Visit the Papadiamantis House and Museum with the collection of the famous Greek novelist memorabilia, the Churches of Panaghia Limnia, and Tris Lerarches, and the charming Bourtzi Peninsula with its Open Air Theatre and the beautiful scenery.

At night exploit Skiathos vibrant night life with the great selection of night clubs especially along the harbor, in the airport road, in Polytechniou st., the “Bar Street”, and in the old town. Visit the Kastro, the ruins of the former island’s capital in the island northern tip, the magnificent rock arch and other rock formations in Lalaria Beach accessible by boat, and the two Monasteries of Panagia Evaggelistria and Kounistra, highly important for the religious tourism.

Most of the highly popular and beautiful sandy beaches and resorts of the island are in its southern part, some offering all the beach facilities, water sports and scuba diving centers, and some secluded and tranquil. Among the most beautiful and Blue Flag awarded beaches are the famous Koukounaries beach resort, Troulos beach resort, Banana Beach, Vromolimnos, Mandraki, and others.

There are in the island more than 20 well marked hiking trails of 1-6 hours each, passing through beautiful terrain with great landscapes. Highly recommended are boat trips from the town of Skiathos to Lalaria Beach and the Kastro on the north, to the nearby small uninhabited island and beach of Tsougria, to the secluded and tranquil coves and bays around the island, and to the nearby beautiful islands of Alonissos and Skopelos.

As the island is very small and with remote beautiful beaches, consider renting a scooter, ATV/Quad Bike, or a car, but regardless, there is a good bus service that leads to most parts of the popular south.
The climate in Skiathos is Mediterranean with mild winters and warm but comfortable summers.
Arriving the island will be by ferries from Volos, Aghios Konstantinos and Mantoudi seaports, and by flights to its international airport from Greece mainland and most of the major European countries.
