• The Acropolis and Parthenon

An ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens containing the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance. The most important structures were built in the 5th century BC including the Parthenon, the Marble made temple of the Goddess Athena, the Propylaea, the grand gateway to the Acropolis, the Erechtheion, the Athena and Poseidon temple, and the Temple of Athena Nike. On the slope of the hill beneath the Acropolis are the Sanctuary of Dionysus, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, an Amphitheatre still in use during Athens Festival.
