• Tillman’s Virgin Mary Altar

The remarkable and famous Virgin Maria Altar, Marienaltar, was carved by the Late Gothic sculptor and woodcarver Tilman Riemenschneider within the small 15th century Gothic Lord’s Chapel, Herrgottskirche in Creglingen, 41 km south of Wurzburg and 18 km northwest of Rothenburg.
The altar represents an exquisite and one of the most important Medieval wood-carved artworks. Opposit to the Lord’s Chapel is the Thimble Museum with its lovely and impressive collection of Thimbles and sewing tools from antiquity to present times. It’s a world class collection including various tool types, materials and interesting decorations.
