• Munich’s Residenz Palace

The former royal palace of the Wittelsbach monarchs of Bavaria, on Max Joseph Platz in central Munich. With origins in the 14th century as a Gothic castle, the palace is one of Europe’s most impressive palaces including a vast complex of buildings presenting impressive 16th century architecture, beautiful interior decorations of various eras, and a charming Court Park.
The Palace is home to the Wittelsbach royal collections, the rococo Cuvillies Theatre, the Herkulessaal concert hall, the Byzantine Court Church and more. The palace is divided to three main sections, the Königsbau, the Alte Residenz, and the Festsaalbau overlooking the Hofgarten.
The Residenz Museum, part of the Palace, is Europe’s most significant museum of interior decoration collections. In the museum highly decorated royal apartments and rooms with ceiling and wall frescoes, tapestries, paintings and mirrors. Enjoy the impressive collection of antique furniture, sculptures, bronze artworks, and much more, from the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Neo-Classic periods. In the Treasury, a magnificent collection including the jewels of 1,000 years rule of the Wittelsbach dynasty, including royal insignia, crowns, swords, goblets, rock crystal and ivory work, and more. The coin collection of more than 300,000 items is one of the world’s largest collections of its kind.
