A labor camp operating from 1936 to 1945, with several subcamps, a gas chamber, and a medical experimentation area, in Oranienburg, 35 km north of Berlin. The prisoners in the camp, mainly political prisoners, were treated harshly and eventually killed. Today, Sachsenhausen is open to the public as a WWII memorial.
