  • Following your visit of Reykjavik and its surroundings and upon a decision to visit the southeastern attractions of Iceland, start your trip in Hella, 100 km southeast of Reykjavik, heading 100 km to Vik, Iceland’s southern tip.

    The major attractions on the #1 Ring Road to visit and enjoy are;

    Traveling to Vik and enjoying these attractions will take around 8 hours.

    There are additional great places to enjoy off the Ring Road, each will take half a day to a day trip and more, including the Landmannlauger Reservation and the Thjorsardalur Valley, Heimaey Island, the Thorsmork Valley, Solheimajokull Glacier, and the Katla Volcano Ice Cave north of Vik.
    Note that the visit of some of these attractions requires a 4X4 vehicle, and a visit to these attractions will be much more enjoyable if part of a guided tour.

    From Vik you can either continue your trip around Iceland or to return to Reykjavik, even though we would recommend continuing northeast at least to the magnificent Glacier Lagoon.
