Thjorsardalur is a green valley rich with rivers, streams, and waterfalls, beautiful basaltic rocks and lava formations, and birchwood forests, located at the southern edge of the Icelandic highlands.
While traveling the valley visit the beautiful Hjalparfoss Fall, and the 122 meters high Haifoss Fall considered one of the highest waterfalls in Iceland.
Explore the small valley of Gjain and enjoy the volcanic formations and its small ponds and waterfalls, visit the famous Thjorsardals hot springs and the large Burfell forest home to unique and rare species of Flora.
For extreme activity, rock climb the impressive and popular Vegghamrar cliffs.
Also in the valley, the Thjodveldisbaerinn Stong Turf House, a reconstructed Viking-Era farm which was part of a scene in the Game of Thrones TV series.
The popular Thjorsardalur valley can be explored together with the Landmannlauger Reservation and the Hekla Volcano and can be reached within one hour either from The Golden Circle, or from Hella, via Road 30, 32, and 26.
