• Klosterneuburg Abbey

Stift Klosterneuburg is a 12th century Augustinian Abbey which was renovated and reconstructed in the 17th -19th centuries. The popular monastery has a Gothic chapel with 18th century elaborate wood carvings on the choir stalls, and a beautiful 12th century Verduner Altar comprising 45 gilded Byzantine paragon copper plates.
The abbey is in Klosterneuburg, 14 km northwest of Vienna on the Danube River at the edge of the Vienna Woods. Explore the abbey’s museum, home to a marvelous collection of Gothic and Baroque sculptures, a gallery of 14th and 15th centuries paintings, and many more artifacts. Also, in the Abbey, a Gallery of Modern Art, with exhibitions of 20th and 21st centuries religious items and contemporary art. In the abbey’s Treasure Chamber, magnificent displays of artifacts and jewelry from its foundation through to the 20th century. Admire the 17th century “holy crown of Austria” decorated with precious stones, the genuine Veil of Agnes, the “Writing Utensils of St. Leopold”, and many other interesting and beautiful items.
