• Goreme National Park

The overwhelming rock structures sites of Cappadocia are in Nevşehir Province’ Goreme National Park, including the towns of Ürgüp in the east, Avanos in the north, the village of Uchisar in the southwest border, and Cavuşin, and Göreme in the park centre. The park area consists of flat areas and high hills, and in between streams and river valleys with sloped ridges.
The park area is of Basalt and thick layers of volcanic tuff solidified into soft rock. Throughout the park this soft rock has gone through water and wind erosion processes creating fairy chimney, towers, pillars, tents formations and more. Since the 4th century these easy to dig and to carve rocks led the local communities and Christians from Rome, to build cave homes, underground communities, churches, and monasteries. The park is fascinating to explore offering amazing landscapes while hiking, cycling, or riding ATV in the park trails.
