A small market town in Upper Wensleydale with the River Ure running north of town, 100 km northwest of York. The town is one of the leading tourists’ attractions in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and its home to the Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese.  Visit the town Railway Station home to the Wensleydale Creamery, the Dales Countryside Museum, and few art galleries.
Visit the Wensleydale Creamery, the major producer of the Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, while using traditional recipes following those first done by French monks in the 12th century. The Dales Countryside Museum tells the story of the Yorkshire Dales and its people from prehistoric times to present days. Stroll the town streets to enjoy the town market, the numerous local shops, and the pubs and tearooms. The town is also a starting point for many hiking and cycling trails in the surrounding countryside.
Near town, explore the Hardraw Force Waterfall, the small Cotter Force Waterfall, and the Buttertubs Pass beautiful scenery between Wensleydale and Swaledale. For more information of what the park has to offer consult with the Visitors Center in town.
