• Bolton Castle

A 14th century Medieval castle in Wensleydale, Yorkshire, 90 km northwest of York.
Part of the castle is in ruins, but the southwest tower and the west range are preserved and habitable. It is a rectangular structure with square towers at each corner, joined by 3 story ranges enclosing an inner courtyard.
The living quarters are large and comfortable, with the heart of the castle chambers is the Great Chamber, which overlooks the courtyard.

Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned here after her escape from Scotland in 1568. The chambers in the southwestern tower have been arranged to display what they would have looked like during her imprisonment.

Within the castle grounds visit the Medieval Garden and a maze, herb garden, wildflower meadow, rose garden and a vineyard. Falconry displays and period “war” games are for the visitors to enjoy. Enjoy the magnificent scenery of the castle’s surroundings.
