Volendam
A 14th century highly popular fishing village with a vibrant and charming harbor, beautiful old buildings, and a lakeside promenade with numerous small cafes, restaurants, and local shops. Enjoy the tranquil village 20 km northeast of Amsterdam while absorbing the Dutch culture and traditions. Buy Clog (Klompen) shoes or an excellent Gauda cheese and take a photo wearing a traditional Dutch custom.
To better absorb the village authentic culture, stroll the inner part of the village through the narrow-cobbled streets, bridges and canals, to enjoy beautiful red roof small houses with magnificent facades and floral decorations, small cafes and local small shops. Visit the Volendam Museum, home to numerous paintings, period customs, jewelry, and typical ships and boats models.
Explore the Volendam (Gauda) Cheese Factory and its small museum, and near the harbor visit the small factory presenting and producing the traditional Dutch wooden shoes. Take a ferry from the harbor to the small traditional and authentic fishing village of Marken.

Marken
A beautiful fishing village where you will stroll around and admire the colorful wooden houses, drawbridges, the picturesque harbor, and the beautiful lighthouse on the eastern tip of the village. Visit the small local shops and seat for a coffee and cake in one of the small cafes by the water. While traveling to Volendam, consider a short visit to Edam, 3 km north of Volendam.

Edam
A picturesque small town known for its Gauda cheese, its 18th century architecture, the iconic windmills, and the beautiful canals and red brick authentic houses.
