The Balearic Islands are a Spanish archipelago of islands in the azure Mediterranean Sea, including the islands of Mallorca, Formentera, Ibiza, and Menorca.

The Islands main attraction is obviously their hundreds of recognized beaches, from fine city and resort beaches with facilities for leisure and relaxation, to tiny coves where you can be alone and at peace with no crowd.
The fine sand, beautiful scenery, and excellent facilities, combined with endless nightlife experiences and outdoor activities, make the Balearic Islands one of the world’s top beach vacation destinations.

Mallorca, the largest island, has a varied landscape of mountains and valleys, rocky coves and sandy beaches. The Sierra del Norte Mountain range is running along the northern coast and the island is covered with pines, olive and almond trees, which blanket the countryside with blossoms in springtime.

Ibiza, the third-largest island famous for its beach parties, has a rugged coastline with many fruit orchards and forests. A narrow channel separates Ibiza from Formentera, the smallest inhabited island in the group.

Formentera, peaceful and tranquil, with “Caribbean” beaches of long white sandy stretches and clear water, pretty pine forests, and only 30 minutes boat ride from Ibiza, it’s a different summer vacation location. Discover hidden coves and isolated corners of the island, by foot or while cycling in this small, flat terrain island.

Menorca still has the marks of its ancient history and a strong connection with Britain. Both the capital Mahon and the old town of Ciutadella, at the north, are located at deep inlets forming natural harbors. There are many bays and lovely beaches on the island.

The Balearic Islands are known for the availability of a range of recreation and sport activities. From hiking, cycling, biking, golf, tennis, and horse riding, to diving, windsurfing, deep sea fishing, and much more.

Walking and hiking in the mountains, hills, and valleys of the islands all year round is highly enjoyable, with many marked trails and rural locations. It’s really a pleasure experiencing both the landscape views, the villages, the people, and the culture and traditions.

The Balearics enjoy a mild Mediterranean climate, with often very warm temperatures especially in summer. The Islands provide great weather for vacations in April through November with atotal of ~30 rainy days a year.

Thetjoy.com recommends spending at least a 5-7 days’ vacation in one of the islands with day trips by ferry or boat cruise to the others.
