A peninsula in the northwestern Aegean Sea, part of Central Macedonia, divided into three smaller peninsulas, Kassandra, Sithonia, and Athos. Halkidiki is the most popular summer vacation destination in northern Greece, offering seaside resorts in 800 km coastline with sandy beaches, bays, and small islands.
The region enjoys beautiful green landscape, rugged mountains, valleys, rivers, and lakes. The largest towns in the area are Nea Moudania, Nea Kallikrateia, and the capital town of Polygyros, 60 km southeast of Theassaloniki.

While in Halkidiki enjoy charming seaside villages, castles, monasteries and numerous ancient sites, accommodations of all levels, restaurants with gourmet cuisine, local tavernas, and bars.
The Halkidiki smaller Peninsulas;

  • The western “leg”, Kassandra, has numerous popular tourist resorts, luxurious hotels, organized beaches, and water sports facilities.
  • The middle “leg”, Sithonia, is less organized and touristic with remote and secluded coves and beaches, and picturesque villages.
  • The eastern peninsula, Athos, is partially a close monastic community with numerous Byzantine monasteries and Mount Athos which dominates the landscape.

To enjoy the monastic scenery, join a sea cruise departing from the beach resort at Ouranoupolis.
There are more than 60 defined beaches in Hakidiki, of which the major beach resorts are the highly modern Sane, Psakoudia, Kallithea, and the  traditional Hanioti resorts in Kassandra, Neos Marmaras and Nikiti resorts in Sithonia, the resorts of Yerakini and Afitos resort village on the coast line between Kassandra and Sithonia, and Ouranoupolis in the Athos region.

The Halkidiki region offers various water sports and outdoor activities including, speedboats, jet skis, open sea kayaking, Paragliding, rock climbing, biking, off road riding and driving, and more.
Scuba Diving is highly popular in Halkidiki with many diving centers spread around, and numerous diving sites including beautiful reefs, underwater caves, and old shipwrecks.

Also in the region a few wineries offering tours and local wine tasting, such as the Claudia Papayianni Winery in Arnea and Tzikas Family Winery near Kassandra.

When in Halkidiki for your summer vacation, you can take 1-2 day trips to Thessaloniki, Mount Olympus, and the magnificent Meteora Monasteries.
