The town once called the Rome of the Alps is in the northwest of Italy, in a fertile alpine basin surrounded by the amazing landscapes of high mountains and ice covered peaks. Aosta has a rich ancient heritage of beautifully preserved Roman architecture such as the 25 BC Roman Arch of Augustus, the town\u2019 icon, The Pretorian Gate, once the eastern entrance to town, the 1st century Roman Bridge over the River Buthier, and the Teatro Romano\u2019 22 meters high facade. Stroll the charming historic center, between Roman and Medieval architecture, and relax in one of the cafes or restaurants of the central square.
