Taygetos, 125 km southwest of Nafplio near ancient Sparta. The town served as the capital of the Byzantine state of the Morea in the 13th -15th centuries period, second in importance to Constantinople. The town was destroyed and abandoned until its reconstruction in the 20th century. Today it is a huge archeological site considered one of the most interesting and beautiful attractions in the Peloponnese, with beautiful buildings and great landscapes.
