The basilica consists of a lower Romanesque\u00a0church and an upper Roman Byzantine church beautifully decorated with pictorial and geometric multicolored mosaics and marble. Part of the church a 40 meters high bell tower supporting a majestic 11 meters high statue of the\u00a0Madonna and Child. The basilica which dominates Marseille\u2019s skyline offers overwhelming panoramic scenery of the city and the Mediterranean Sea.
